Peter Hindle MBE’s career spans 4 decades in the building distribution industry and has covered independent merchants, growing national merchants and a global merchant in various key senior executive roles within SaintGobain (LON: COD). Peter has a unique vantage point of historical understanding of the industry’s roots, the way it operates; its customers’ needs, wants and desires and its evolution. Peter has successfully used these insights to lead and grow Jewson in his role as its Managing Director for over 12 years. Thereafter, Peter led Jewson’s transition to SaintGobain, the global construction material leader.
A sign of his leadership quality and experience was his appointment to be the CEO and General Delegate of SaintGobain in the UK, Ireland and South Africa; a multinational enterprise of 20,000 people, covering all of SaintGobain’s operations and representing around 10% of the Group’s turnover.
In September 2013, Peter was made Senior Vice President, Sustainable Habitat for Compagnie de SaintGobain, whilst retaining his position as General Delegation, SaintGobain UK, Ireland & South Africa.
Peter continuously strives to develop himself and others. He is a member of the Institute of Wood Science and an elected board member of the Cranfield School of Management Advisory Board. In late 2013 Peter was appointed onto the World Green Building Council Advisory Board. In April 2014, he was made Chairman of the Builders Merchant Federation and in September 2015, Peter became the Chairman of the Confederation of Timber Industries [CTI].
His work in the industry and championing of the development and support of others has lead to two significant accolades: an MBE in 2009 for his services to the Building Industry and Charity and in February 2012, Peter was awarded an Honorary Doctor Degree by Birmingham City University, in recognition of his outstanding business achievements, people development and charitable work. The “Together” programme he started has now raised over £2 million. In November 2013, Peter was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by Builders Merchant News (BMN).
Peter carries the determination, dedication and will to win from his early days as a professional cyclist into his business career. In February 2016, Peter retired from SaintGobain after a very successful, and rewarding career. Peter is now keen to leverage his immense expertise, network and passion for business to help growing businesses in consultancy or advisory roles.
